Description

ARMY OF LOVE, 2000, is Paul's first CD release. It includes three previously unreleased songs from an unfinished project with producer engineer musician genius Shahzad Ismaily and seven from earlier projects, since released on CD. PAUL McMAHON is considered a dang okay songwriter and singer in his hometown of Woodstock NY, where he is also known as the KING OF THE UNIVERSE and the ROCK'N'ROLL THERAPIST.

Back in the 60's McMahon took guitar lessons from Elvin Bishop. A lead guitarist in blues bands, he left music for seven years to be a conceptual artist. Punk Rock re-ignited his rock'n'roll mojo and he became a member of the 'No Wave' band DAILY LIFE with Glenn Branca and Barbara Ess in New York in 1977. In 1979 he started A BAND with Wharton Tiers. In 1980 he started performing more solo acoustic and THE ROCK'N'ROLL THERAPIST was born. In this act he makes up songs on the spot about audience members' problems and the problems are always cured. He was a regular on KTV, a kids show on CNBC in 1989-90 and has appeared frequently on radio, most often on WDST-FM (Woodstock) and WFMU-FM (E. Orange).

Since 1990 he has honed his song-writing in Woodstock. He moved there to pursue spiritual studies and was ordained an Interfaith minister in 1996. From time to time he forms bands and backs up other area musicians. He has worked with Shamsi Ruhe and Gayle Two Eagles, who adopted him as her older brother in South Dakota in 1999. He was in a band called NAKED and more recently in a band called ARMY OF LOVE with Amanda Jo Williams.
